One Response to “Filters vs. Bottled H2O”

  1. Beth Terry Says:

Brita filters are a great choice as an alternative to tap water. But have you ever wondered what happens to those plastic filter cartridges at the end of their lives?

In Europe, the original Brita company created a take-back recycling program for them. Customers return their cartridges to the store where they purchased them. The cartridges are then sent back to Brita, where all the parts are recycled, including plastic, charcoal, and ion exchange resin.

In North America, Brita is owned by Clorox. Clorox has not provided any way to recycle the cartridges. We think they should!

Take Back The Filter (http://www.takebackthefilter.org) is a campaign to urge Clorox to take responsibility for the full life cycle of the products it produces, in this case, plastic Brita cartridges. Please visit the site to sign the petition and spread the word. We are also collecting used filters!
