Make sure the yearly tax bill is line with affordabilty. When I was searching for cheap real estate that is a road block I ran into. You may consider the neighborhoods of Jefferson Park, Norwood Park and Edison Park. Just my 2 cents.
Similar homes in the area have asking prices twice as much than this house and commonly MORE. The taxes range between $4,800-$5,500. The true affordability of the home depends on how much work it needs.
Even at half-off, this home is out of my price range, and more space than I could maintain, but it was really nice of my friend to think of me when he saw it. It also gives me hope that a smaller, stand-alone house might come into my range as the market continues to decline. If only I can save enough!
